From the desk of Allie....
2 years ago.....
Me: 'Chris, that's disgusting. Send it back.'
Chris: 'No, it was probably just an accident, I pick it out.'
Me: 'Really?! Wasn't that their job? No way, you paid good money for that, send it back.'
Present day.....
Me: 'What is that?'
Chris: 'I believe its a hair'
Me: 'Eww, should we keep eating'
Chris: shrugs shoulders
Me: 'Yeah, ok' takes another bite of hair noodles
The first conversation Chris and I had on a date at a fancy restaurant 2 years ago when he found a pin bone in his sea bass, the second was a conversation we had last week over takeout noodles when we found a hair actually inside one of the noodles. As I relive these conversations I am certain of 2 things, one, Chris is a reasonable voice in my somewhat dramatic life and, two, the Father sure has changed us. Chris and I used to joke that we were food snobs. No chain food restaurants for us! This may have been fueled by the overabundance of tasty independent restaurants in Louisville but we thrived on finding a new place to feast our demanding palates on. I never really saw it as something that needed to be changed, but there were times when I made a big deal out of something that wasn't really a big deal. And for me, it was because I felt superior. I felt too good to eat food that wasn't perfect and to the standard that I wanted it. Now, I don't have the language to send food back in China but He has worked it out so that I don't feel the need to. Hair in my food? At least its hot. Ants on the plate? At least they aren't in my food yet. I have been refined in the fire that is the trashcan stoves I eat from, and I am oddly joyful about it in the way that can only happen when He makes changes.
Love this, my sweet friend.
