Date night!

From the desk of Chris...

When Allie and I got married a little over 5 years ago we decided that we'd have a "date night" every week. Sometimes we'd go out to a really nice restaurant, but other nights we'd just go out for dessert-- the important thing is that we spend some time together away from the craziness of life.  Now that we're in living in small-town China, date night has become "find the Western food" night! Every once in a while it's nice to eat a meal without rice :) One of the "better" Western food places we've found is a place called Domis Pizza.  When we got to Domis 2 very nice ladies opened the doors for us... then 5 people proceeded to ask us "Do you speak Chinese??" Thankfully a Chinese man who also spoke English came to our rescue! Here are some pics of our favorites, and not-so-favorites, from Domis:

The ladies that open the door for you.
Finally, some coffee!
What the heck is this?!
Did I really eat that?!
Dragon fruit... hmm.....
Time for dessert! And no, that's not strawberry icecream... it was some kind of flower. But still tasty!

I must admit, all in all Domis was a pretty good place. The pizza was suprisingly good, as was the flower icecream! Whenever we really feel the need for American food, there's one place we can always go. A place that we would never go on date night in American, but a place that transcends cultural differences:

In China, the phrase "Lao wei" refers to "white face people." This is the first place we've seen another lao wei in Hengyang!

And just incase you need a little more excitement as a part of date night in Hengyang, there's always the bus ride home! See how many different traffic violations and near-accidents you can find!
