Whew! It has been a whirlwind since we arrived in Beijing! We've been in class 8 hours a day, and our first quiz is coming up tomorrow. What better way to procrastinate from studying than to write a blog post?! For one of our assignments we had to go to the Forbidden City and write a reflection paper. Here's a pic of Allie and me in the city:
It's crazy that this city was built from 1406 - 1420 (over 70 years before Columbus even reached America!), spans almost 1500 square miles, and is still standing almost 600 years later! This city is older than our entire country. It's an understatment to say that it was humbling to explore such a depth of history and culture. However, I do have to admit, not everyone seemed humbled.... no wonder they used to keep people out of this place!
All in all, it was a great assignment to have to do. Yes, I will gladly go to such a place and write a paper. But please, next time don't make me try to find my way home during rush-hour!
